Ciara Celebrates Easy, Breezy, Beautiful Baby Shower!

She may not be a Covergirl, but Ciara was the epitome of easy, breezy and beautiful at her baby shower Saturday afternoon.

Sporting a Naeem Khan caftan dress, Ci Ci looked effortlessly fabulous while snapping pics with her celeb friends. The singer’s BFFs, LaLa Anthony and Kim Kardashian stopped by and we’re sure they dished out a little parenting advice.

And of course, Kimmy’s mom, Kris Jenner also showed up.

#NormalizeNursing Support The Movement!

What’s. The. Big. Deal?!

Any other time men are clamoring to see a pair of boobs, but heaven-forbid we whip them out for someone other than them…smh.

For some unknown reason, riots practically break out at the site of a mother simply breast-feeding her child. While wearing cover-ups has become the socially acceptable common ground for those who are offended by public feedings, it is not always practical — especially when you have a handsy baby who hates to be covered. This is why we LOVE #NormalizeNursing!!!

Created to support mothers who breastfeed in public, #NormalizeNursing has become a trend gaining more and more popularity on social networks. Recently, “America’s Top Model” alum and SASY Mom, Yaya (Dacosta) Alafia posted a picture of herself nursing her baby boy, Sankara and wrote the following…

i know i’m mad late, but i haven’t been on the computer much lately. just heard about the uproar over @ash3nicole pic & had to post a copycat photo in solidarity. hope you don’t mind, beautiful sistren. i’m so proud of you and stand by you! #breastisbest #whattheyaremadefor #getoverit #mamasunite #movement

Yaya’s post was in solidarity with Ashley Nicole (NFL pro Philip Wheeler’s girlfriend) who received tons of backlash for posting this…

Was on the way out the door but then mommy duty called… Everything stops for him! #breastisbest #natureisbeautiful #IWasMadeForThis

Ashley and Yaya aren’t the first ones to take a stand on this issue. Remember this 2008 W magazine with a nursing Angelina Jolie on the cover?

And last December, Gisele posted this SASY Mom pic, showing off her multi-tasking skills.

It’s been a topic of conversation for many years, but it seems that now women are finally saying ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! All we’re trying to do is feed our children. We’re not flashing anyone, we’re not forcing you to look and we’re definitely not being indecent. Furthermore, you see more boob from following Rihanna on Instagram than you do from me nursing my child. Primetime TV has more inappropriate moments than I do while nursing. The world is waaaay more vulgar, than me doing what nature has called me to do.

You detractors better get on board because us breastfeeding mamas aren’t going anywhere!

Whining While Weaning…

I’m currently weaning my 9 month old daughter …and I’m doing most of the whining.

Actually, after tonight we may be tied. I’m whining because, if I’m being honest, I have no idea what I’m doing. She’s whining because, well…she wants the boob.

So, after admitting that I don’t know what the heck I’m doing how on earth do I think I can give advice? Because, every advice column/website/forum/discussion board I’ve come across spews the same old tired advice and since it’s all crap I figured I would give the REAL DEAL on weaning.

First of all, it’s harder than childbirth. OK, maybe that’s dramatic, but it has been one of the more difficult parts of parenting. It’s as if your child is going through some type of withdrawal and you’re just along for the emotionally grueling ride.

Plus, not only is it a trying time for baby, but it’s pretty painful for mommy too. Swollen, engorged, rock hard boobies are no one’s idea of a good time.

However, with all that said, I think I’ve figured the whole thing out (how presumptious of me!). It will NEVER be easy. It’s not meant to be. It’s a major disruption in a child’s life and change is rarely easy…even for adults. So, my biggest piece of advice is to be PATIENT. I’m only a few weeks in and I ignorantly thought it would be easy, breezy and that we’d be done by now. Now I realize there’s a long road ahead and that’s totally fine.

I could tell you to wean gradually. Or have someone else give your baby bottles instead of you. I could even say place a hot towel over your achy breast. Or suggest replacing your boob with a pacifier. Or any other useless rhetoric you’ve probably read a million times, but at the end of the day you will find what works best for you and your baby through trial and error. Period.

My only advice would be to have patience. Easier said than done, believe me, I know. But, I know all to well that stressing about the situation will only make it worse. Just think, you’re not the first woman to wean and you won’t be the last. No baby nurses forever and even if you suck at weaning your baby is bound to get off the tit…eventually…

Working Moms: How We Get It All Done…While Looking Great, Of Course!

Moms are the busiest people on the planet. Point. Blank. Period.
There’s no way around it, BUT you can still be Superwoman and chic at the same d*mn time! Here’s our best advice on how to be a SASY mom.

1. Be Like Santa Claus
How so? Make a list and check it twice! Seriously, the best advice I’ve ever received was to write everything down. Even the stuff you swear you will remember because 9 times out of 10 that will be the first thing you forget. Important meeting? Hot date with the hubby? Kids soccer practice? Happy Hour with the girls? There’s a time and place for everything as long as you remember it. I’ll say it again…Write It Down! Organization is imperative for success.

2. Take Time To Look Good
I know people will hate me for this but looks DO matter. If you look good, you feel good. I’m not saying you need a full on glam squad every day, but a hot shower, cute outfit, combed hair and a little mascara go a looooong way. Plus, when you look your worst you’re bound to run into the last person you would want to see.

3. Don’t Forget, Your Child(ren) Live With YOU…Not The Other Way Around
Kids are amazing but they shouldn’t be your entire life. If your child is the center of the universe you’re well on your way to raising a terrorist (ok, maybe that’s a bit dramatic, but you get the point). Children need to know that they don’t own you. The house should be adult-centered, not child-centered. This does not mean neglect your little one, it simply means they should’t run the house. They’re just kids, not God!

The Oscars: Baby Bump Edition!

Well, this will be a short post. We only saw two baby bumps at the Oscars — Kerry Washington & Elsa Pataky!

Wearing a beautiful, custom made Jason Wu dress, Jen Meyer jewelry, Christian Louboutin shoes and a Judith Leiber bag, Kerry completed the awards season on an amazing high note.

The stunning Scandal star is expecting her first child with husband Nnamdi Asomugha this Spring.

And while Kerry had our favorite red carpet bump, Chris Hemsworth’s wife Elsa had our most uncomfortable looking one.

Pataky looked like she was due any second while on the red carpet for the Academy Awards, but luckily she didn’t deliver while there. At any rate, she looked amazing for a women carrying twins in a green embellished gown and stilettos, of course!
