MOMents Ep. 3: Mixed Up Clothing … Kids Fashion Done A Whole New Way!

One of a kind fashion with a positive message, that’s what Sonia Smith-Kang created with Mixed Up Clothing and it’s the reason I just had to have her for episode #3 of MOMents!

As a bi-racial woman Sonia has a special place in her heart for the multi-cultural community. It’s the reason why she wanted to be an advocate and it’s also fueled the fire behind her clothing brand. With an emphasis on ethnic prints and styles, Mixed Up Clothing is unlike anything you’ve ever seen before. There’s a message of inclusiveness in every stitch and acceptance in every enclosure. The kids clothing line is truly made with love and every single piece has a story — one, in which, that’s told right there on the tag.

MOMents Ep. 2: Fullproof Mother’s Day Gift Courtesy Spa Lé La

Heyyyy ladies, it’s our holiday!! That’s right, Mother’s Day is around the corner and inevitably someone in your life will ask, ‘what do you want?’ Well, instead of the proverbial, ‘I don’t care. I’ll be grateful for anything,’ response, go in with a specific answer. SPA. LÉ. LA!

For this episode of MOMents, I visited the super cute spa in Studio City and it was everything! It’s not your normal spa, this spa caters to the mamas out there that want to luxuriate, but need some help with their kiddos. With expert, on-site child care, mothers can come to Spa Lé La for a guilt free day of pampering.

The spa delights in giving an unique experience to those who visit. Sure, you can get a massage, mani/pedi and facial, but you can also book a luxurious bath, an uninterrupted nap or just some quiet time. You remember what quiet time is, right?

MOMents Ep. 1: Bouncing Forward, Snapping Back And NOT Breastfeeding … A Chat With “The FAB Mom” Jill Simonian

MOMents w/ Vanessa B. is finally here and I could not be more excited! I’ve wanted to do a show highlighting incredible moms and amazing business and brands that cater to moms, for quite some time. Instead of waiting around for some network to give me a green light, I gave myself one — and here we are!

Jill Simonian is my first guest, and honestly, I couldn’t have asked for anyone better! Known as “The FAB Mom” (check her site if you haven’t already), Jill gives her perspective on almost every aspect of motherhood. She’s real, honest, knowledgeable and funny as hell … basically, my type of girl!

My Breastfeeding Journey: 5 Months A Slave…

Navy is almost five months old, which means I have been nursing for about five months now. I am his sole source of food; I am undoubtedly 5 months a slave. (it’s ok, you can laugh)

This time around things have been much different from when I nursed my daughter. Charlie B. was a breeze. She loved nursing, pumping wasn’t easy but I got it done and my freezer supply was hearty — Life was good. Navy B. is a whole ‘nother story. Sometimes he likes to nurse, sometimes he’ll fuss his way through it. Pumping was going great (I got a new pump and it made a world of difference) but then my supply decreased. Then, my freezer stash to a severe hit. Things were looking bleak.

In an effort to somewhat correct the downward tailspin my breastfeeding journey was taking, I took some drastic (and some not so drastic) measures to get back on track. Here’s what I did …

Working From Home With A Newborn Is Hard AF!

Working from home seems like an ideal scenario, especially when your (short-lived) maternity leave is up and you’re not quite ready to put your baby in the care of someone else. But, it’s not all snuggles and cuddles with your sweet-smelling newborn. It’s more like changing diapers, while jotting down notes and taking a conference call … all at the same d@mn time!

So, for those mamas out there who will be venturing into the work from home space soon, here are a few things to consider…

Charlie B.’s Chore Chart!

Spoiled kids are hella annoying. But if we’re being honest, you can’t really blame the kids … you have to blame their raggedy parents for not teaching them better. In my quest to make sure Charlie B. doesn’t embarrass me, I am making sure my child understands the value of hardwork and responsibility. And I know there are a lot of mamas out there that feel the same way I do!

Mud Pies & Much More … Tremendous Fun With Tinkergarten!

When I was a little kid growing up in Michigan, I played outside all of the time — I absolutely loved it! Unfortunately, I’ve found that raising a kid in LA doesn’t provide the same opportunity. Luckily, we live across the street from a park and have a small backyard area, so #CharlieB gets her fill of nature, but not every kid is so fortunate. Annnnnnd that’s where Tinkergarten comes in.

6 Months: The Good, Bad and Ugly!

Finally, I’m SIX months pregnant!!!

This milestone is a big deal. #BabyBoyBarnett has now reached “fetal viability”, meaning if the little guy were born today he would have a good fighting chance at survival (50% – 70%). This was huge for me because I felt myself being more worried and cautious during this pregnancy. Thankfully, I feel a little calmer now, which is one of the good things about month six.

Below are just a few of the things I’ve faced getting to this point and how I feel now.
