MOMents Ep. 3: Mixed Up Clothing … Kids Fashion Done A Whole New Way!

May 15, 2017
Screen Shot 2017-05-15 at 8.05.21 AM

One of a kind fashion with a positive message, that’s what Sonia Smith-Kang created with Mixed Up Clothing and it’s the reason I just had to have her for episode #3 of MOMents!

As a bi-racial woman Sonia has a special place in her heart for the multi-cultural community. It’s the reason why she wanted to be an advocate and it’s also fueled the fire behind her clothing brand. With an emphasis on ethnic prints and styles, Mixed Up Clothing is unlike anything you’ve ever seen before. There’s a message of inclusiveness in every stitch and acceptance in every enclosure. The kids clothing line is truly made with love and every single piece has a story — one, in which, that’s told right there on the tag.

During our chat for MOMents, Sonia and I discussed her upbringing as a military brat, how she left her job as an R.N. to turn her hobby into a business and how she works as a multi-racial advocate.

MOMents Ep. 2: Fullproof Mother’s Day Gift Courtesy Spa Lé La

Heyyyy ladies, it’s our holiday!! That’s right, Mother’s Day is around the corner and inevitably someone in your life will ask, ‘what do you want?’ Well, instead of the proverbial, ‘I don’t care. I’ll be grateful for anything,’ response, go in with a specific answer. SPA. LÉ. LA!

For this episode of MOMents, I visited the super cute spa in Studio City and it was everything! It’s not your normal spa, this spa caters to the mamas out there that want to luxuriate, but need some help with their kiddos. With expert, on-site child care, mothers can come to Spa Lé La for a guilt free day of pampering.

The spa delights in giving an unique experience to those who visit. Sure, you can get a massage, mani/pedi and facial, but you can also book a luxurious bath, an uninterrupted nap or just some quiet time. You remember what quiet time is, right?

While speaking with the owner Trina Reneá she gave me a little insight into the inspiration for Spa Lé La, how the name came about and the most difficult part of construction (hint: she probably need a nice, long, hot bath after dealing with the stress of it all ;-).

Following our chat I got the chance to experience some of what the spa had to offer. The Infrared Sauna was the perfect moment of solitude that had the added benefits of detoxification and improved circulation. Plus, it also aids in anti-aging efforts, weight loss and lower blood pressure. Win-win-win! After sitting in the sauna for about 25 minutes, I headed to relaxation room for an invigorating facial. Not only what the treatment divine, the products they use smelled so good I wanted to eat them!

MOMents Ep. 1: Bouncing Forward, Snapping Back And NOT Breastfeeding … A Chat With “The FAB Mom” Jill Simonian

May 1, 2017
Screen Shot 2017-05-01 at 9.16.47 PM

MOMents w/ Vanessa B. is finally here and I could not be more excited! I’ve wanted to do a show highlighting incredible moms and amazing business and brands that cater to moms, for quite some time. Instead of waiting around for some network to give me a green light, I gave myself one — and here we are!

Jill Simonian is my first guest, and honestly, I couldn’t have asked for anyone better! Known as “The FAB Mom” (check her site if you haven’t already), Jill gives her perspective on almost every aspect of motherhood. She’s real, honest, knowledgeable and funny as hell … basically, my type of girl!

The gorgeous mama of two girls has just released her first book, The Fab Mom’s Guide: How to Get Over the Bump & Bounce Back Fast After Baby, and was kind enough to sit down with me during her book launch at Au Fudge in West Hollywood. We chatted about life before and after having your first kid, how to properly “snapback” and what being a “FAB” mom really means. And things got really interesting when she gave me her take on breastfeeding (she didn’t do it and doesn’t regret it!).

Check out our fun convo below and subscribe to my Youtube channel to see next week’s episode of MOMents. Also, make sure you get Jill’s book HERE!

Disneyland Measles Melee: Are You Pro or Anti Vaccinations?

January 26, 2015
Screen Shot 2015-01-26 at 10.23.05 PM

The Disneyland measles outbreak is an unfortunate situation that has reignited the vaccination war in the U.S. To date, over 50 adults and children have contracted the highly contagious illness while at “the happiest place on Earth”.

Recently, while making an appearance on the HLN show “Dr. Drew On Call”, I gave my stance on vaccinations. Take a look at the snippet below…

First, let me say, I whole heartedly believe in vaccinations and the health and safety it provides my daughter (and others around her). But, I do believe physicians need to do a better job at educating their patients about immunizations and the risks they run by not getting them. As a parent, it should be my choice, not the government’s, to vaccinate my child. But, I should also be provided adequate knowledge about the medicine being injected into my child’s body … and unfortunately if you do not do your due diligence, then you will most likely not receive that information.

As I previously stated, #CharlieB has received all of her vaccinations. But, after viewing the CDC’s immunization schedule, we decided (with the help of Charlie’s pediatrician) on a less aggressive schedule that worked for us and still assured that Charlie would receive the best care. The recommended chart is below. Did you stick with the recommendation or did you amend it like we did? I’d love to hear some feedback from other moms and dads!

Budget Buster: It Will Cost $245,000 To Raise A Child!

August 26, 2014
Screen Shot 2014-08-25 at 9.53.59 PM

It’s no secret that raising a child is expensive — but did you know it will cost on average $245,000?!

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, to raise a child born in 2013 to the age of 18, it will cost a middle-income couple $245,340. And that’s NOT including college!

But, that’s only half the story. If you are a high-income family who lives in the urban Northeast, you may spend nearly $455,000 for the same time period, while low-income rural families will spend around $145,500.

These statistics blew my mind! I (SASY V) recently stopped by The Rubin Report to discuss these findings and you can clearly see the shock on my face. Take a look at the video below…do you agree with my thoughts?
